Open Access Policy
This journal provides open access to all of it content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Such access is associated with increased readership and increased citation of an author's work. For more information on this approach, see the Public Knowledge Project, which has designed this system to improve the scholarly and public quality of research, and which freely distributes the journal system as well as other software to support the open access publishing of scholarly resources.
Why publish here?
Since 1986 It. J. Mammal. publishes papers concerning fossil and living mammals particularly on systematics, biology, conservation, management and ecology. The priority of the journal is to promote research and increase knowledge on mammals, both in theoretical and applied field, particularly in Italy and, since recent, in the Mediterranean area. The scope is also to offer the opportunity to promote circulation of data, in revised and synthetic form, on mammals from the grey literature (technical reports, bachelor thesis, etc.). In its new electronic format, It. J. Mammal. guarantees:
- short publication time (less than 1 year from submission to on-line publication);
- large amount of space to publish extensive papers;
- use of colour figures;
- the possibility to publish supplemental material as sounds, short videos, or original datasets.
